Acupressure for Easing Labour & Birth Ebook by Melinda Webb

Acupressure provides a calm and supportive atmosphere that works beautifully alongside breathing techniques for childbirth. It evolved from Traditional Chinese medicine as a therapeutic method to restore the flow of Qi ( energy) along the meridians of the body (energy pathways), of which we have 12 running throughout the body.

The information within this booklet acts as a guide for the birth partner and support people. Used as a tool to encourage labour to begin throughout the labour, birth and postpartum period. Applied using the hand, fingertips or knuckles as a non-invasive form of care for labour and birth to alleviate discomfort or pain.

Using this mild to firm pressure at intervals and with a therapeutic sensation (not inflicting pain) to encourage change within the body, the pressure aids in releasing endorphins, the body’s natural opioids, and touch, stimulating oxytocin.

Specific pressure on acupressure points may induce contractions, promote cervical ripening, and encourage a more efficient labour process. There are studies to show that acupressure can impact labour times, but these results can differ for each individual.
